The audience at the Great Northern Brewery was a bit noisy during Josh
Ottum's first few numbers. Maybe they had been expecting a full band,
but it was Josh and a guitar, and possibly some kind of keyboard. Any
fears that connection between artist and audience would be difficult
were soon put to rest. The crowd warmed up and quieted down, and Josh's
talent shone through. Josh talked, they responded. Josh sang, they
listened. Three quarters of the way through his set, he moved to the
keyboard that the crowd had been eyeing all night. Josh explained that
it was an old Yamaha bought at Costco to cue up generic pre-set beats to
accompany his guitar playing. The audience chuckled a bit at first, but
by the end of the song they responded as if they'd just seen and heard
exactly what they came for.
