One Buzz Wonder

I don’t have a TV, so it’s a rare moment when I find myself in front of one, forced with the mission of finding myself something to keep me entertained for a brief period of time. One such rare moment arrived just the other day. I was at the gym because the weather sucked, and I decided to watch TV as I exercised on the cross-training thing instead of listening to my iPod and watching people watch themselves. The person using the machine before me had left the TV tuned to VH1, and as I could find nothing else to intrigue me, I decided to stick around and watch 31 through 40 of the best 100 songs of the ‘90s. I remembered all of the songs, but over half of the artists were either fads or one-hit wonders. They mentioned how that so... read more >

Adam Arcuragi: The Session

Adam and I had kept in touch over the past year, both hoping that our worlds would collide again for a full-length session. I knew in a matter of minutes the last time around that we would work well together in the studio. Adam stood well above his peers in the paradoxical simplicity of his lyrics; much like Bruce Springsteen could turn a pair blue jeans and a plain-white T into the uniform for a guilt-ridden war hero.

Adam’s aversion to digital sounds was also exciting for me, as it required for more creative workarounds that usually led to unique sounds. Both of us liked the organic approach to recording, using mic techniques and room treatments to achieve the desired results. We continued talking about a recording session of gran... read more >

Lang Lebe Rock!

For once in my blogging life, I sat down to do a little research. I had an interesting idea, and rather than simply giving my own opinion and reinforcing it with even more opinion thinly veiled as some kind of fact, I figured it might be a good time to see if there were some numbers I could crunch or point to. The idea in my head sprung from thinking about friends I had in the real estate business. I’d heard that some of them were seeking second jobs or abandoning the practice all together because the housing market was stinking like the fish market. Well, I postulated, did this mean that hundreds, if not thousands of would-be Halls and/or Oates would cut their budding mullets and keep their day jobs and steer clear of the sinking... read more >

Victory Smokes: The Session

I hadn't heard all that much about Victory Smokes outside of a few friends who mentioned them as being one of Missoula's premier modern rock bands, among a sea of folk and jam bands. We've never really looked to Missoula for anything really cutting edge, as the population there seemed to be content on trading their ‘off the board’ mixes of Grateful Dead shows (of which I am definitely guilty of owning a few). But after finding out that Mike (Victory's singer/rhythm guitarist) was also promoting some pretty cool rock shows down there, I became intrigued. I got the demo, and yes, it was rough, but the songs were there. I knew that we could work together to really polish them into great songs.

To be continued...

In my opinion

This blog is the greatest blog ever written. I’ve never read anything so worthless in my life. I can’t believe this website isn’t the most popular site for all true indie rock junkies. The layout of this site makes me want to stab my eyes with chopsticks. I can’t stop listening to this song. I can’t stop hating this song. If this blog has anymore polar examples of strong opinions, I will stop reading immediately as it is insulting my intelligence and/or desecrating a horse that has clearly expired.

Welcome to the exciting and polarizing world of opinion, where everyone is a critic, and everything is up for debate. I’ve been a resident here on Planet Judgment for almost my entire life, and while I may not be the house-... read more >
