In my opinion

This blog is the greatest blog ever written. I’ve never read anything so worthless in my life. I can’t believe this website isn’t the most popular site for all true indie rock junkies. The layout of this site makes me want to stab my eyes with chopsticks. I can’t stop listening to this song. I can’t stop hating this song. If this blog has anymore polar examples of strong opinions, I will stop reading immediately as it is insulting my intelligence and/or desecrating a horse that has clearly expired.

Welcome to the exciting and polarizing world of opinion, where everyone is a critic, and everything is up for debate. I’ve been a resident here on Planet Judgment for almost my entire life, and while I may not be the house-... read more >

Here Lies the Shitty Album

Rome wasn’t built in a day. You can’t rush perfection, nor can you put a price on it. Good things come to those who wait. These are not just the clichéd excuses of contractors and the eternally slow and lazy. These are the universal explanations for why we have to wait so long for something we thought we should have already had. Sometimes the delay mixes with anticipation and magnifies the elation when the product or project turns out nicely, and other times the waiting can multiply the disappointment. I can’t begin to describe to you how disappointed I was when Jaws 3 (in 3-D!) finally came out, not to mention Jar Jar Binks years later, so instead I will talk about music.

Much has been made lately about the impending ... read more >

RadicalSong

In one of my last album roundups of 2007, I ordered 3 relatively new CDs that I hadn’t heard a single song from. Two of them were new releases from artists I’d already heard, and the third was an action taken solely on a recommendation from a friend. He said it was the best album he had heard all year, and he thought I would be into it. Turns out my friend was absolutely right. In fact, the second track from this great album turned out to be THE GREATEST TRACK OF 2007.

And unlike the thrilling climax of a beauty pageant, we must not first deal with the first and second runners up. I wish I could say that I spent an entire year listening to music, creating a mental chart that saw change and upheaval as I introduced the ... read more >

The DFS

Jack Johnson is probably a really nice guy. He's a good surfer, he makes much better than average surf movies, and I like a lot of his songs. He seems to have learned a lot from his hero Ben Harper, though he hasn't expanded his virtuosity or been anywhere near as eclectic. But I am not here to talk about the catchiness of 'Bubble Toes' or the lack of evolution in his music, as much as I would love to. I'm actually here to discuss the legacy of Jack Johnson. Like I said, I am a fan, and I would love to go on a surf trip with him. I would even be totally stoked to sit around a campfire and trade Ben Harper covers with him and discuss the finer points of underwater photography. Ah, but we would definitely have to discuss the lega... read more >

Radio, You've Really Let Yourself Go

Remember Larry? He was the guy you knew and periodically hung out with in high school, but you lost touch with him pretty much the moment you graduated. You had friends in common, maybe even a couple of memories where you guys really connected, but for some reason or another, you just couldn't stay in touch. And then 10 years later, you end up sharing a cubicle with him at your new job. As soon as he opens his mouth, the questions begin forming: Was my head that far up my ass back then, or maybe Larry has only recently joined the league of morons? Should I deny that I am myself and ignore him, or just quit now and run? I still have dreams of becoming wise, but is it possible that I have socially and mentally deteriorated, comp... read more >
