21 Blog Salute

If you were a serious mathematician, capable of counting well beyond the fingers on both of your hands, you could count the number of SnowGhost blogs and discover that there have been 20 blogs so far. That would make this blog the 21st, and in blog years, that means it’s time to buy the blog a few shots. After consulting with the lab-coat wearing mathematicians we keep on staff for help in all of our counting situations, we decided that 21 shots would be appropriate. And being a blog, we’ve decided to keep track of everything to the best of our ability as we get celebratory. So grab your shot glass and let’s raid mom’s liquor cabinet and crank up dad’s stereo! (Note to readers: no one at SnowGhost condones abusive drinking, liquor... read more >

So I got an iPod

This past Christmas was a sad day for the WDHiP club, as it has likely been every Christmas for the past half-decade or so. I called Sid France, the 89-year-old president of the New England chapter of WDHiP, and let him know that I had forfeited my eligibility and would no longer be part of the ultra-exclusive We Don’t Have iPods club. He swallowed any bitterness he might have had and wished me luck on all of my endeavors, promising that he would inform the three other club members of my departure. I wished him well and hung up the phone, and with a slightly heavy heart, I began charging my very own refurbished iPod, lovingly bestowed upon me in the spirit of Christmas.

For the first few days, I brought it everywhere. I imp... read more >

RadicalSong

In one of my last album roundups of 2007, I ordered 3 relatively new CDs that I hadn’t heard a single song from. Two of them were new releases from artists I’d already heard, and the third was an action taken solely on a recommendation from a friend. He said it was the best album he had heard all year, and he thought I would be into it. Turns out my friend was absolutely right. In fact, the second track from this great album turned out to be THE GREATEST TRACK OF 2007.

And unlike the thrilling climax of a beauty pageant, we must not first deal with the first and second runners up. I wish I could say that I spent an entire year listening to music, creating a mental chart that saw change and upheaval as I introduced the ... read more >

A Weekend With Ted

Ted and I went to see Bright Eyes last weekend. Actually, I went to see Bright Eyes. Ted was there to see the band opening for the opening band, who we missed anyway because Ted had to find a Spike’s so he could have a Junkyard Dog and decide if it was truly the best junk food in the Northeast. Ted insisted that we had time, even though the doors opened at 5. I was pumped when we arrived just in time to see the second opening band finish off their brief set, and Ted was not. He had a mini-tantrum, culminating with this exchange with Piercing Pin Cushion who took our tickets.

TED: You mean to tell me that the show actually started at 6?

PPC: It says so right there on your paper ticket, dude.

(Ted w... read more >

Delicious Vinyl

I recently found myself in an Urban Outfitters store. I was there merely as an accomplice, but I couldn’t help but be blown away by the complete lack of anything worth buying, much less overpaying for. It should be stated that I am no fashion maven. And it could be said (and probably has) that I may not actually possess any style because I’m so busy perfecting the art of comfort, which often falls outside the lines of style. But even someone as detached from apparel as I couldn’t help but notice the crapulence hanging from racks, folded on shelves, and unflatteringly modeled by mannequins and store employees, who all looked like extras for the hipster Olympics.

But before I go completely off tangent and question the sa... read more >
