These United States: The Session

These United States were the first artists that did a show before doing anything in the studio. The show was on a Sunday night and the band had to be in Minneapolis by Tuesday evening. They had an eighteen hour drive ahead of them. Being that this was their first time in Montana, they didn’t know much about the scene and hadn’t planned for a full SnowGhost Session. We had a good breakfast at Mama Blanca’s in town and headed up to the studio to make some music. Radio, You've Really Let Yourself Go

Remember Larry? He was the guy you knew and periodically hung out with in high school, but you lost touch with him pretty much the moment you graduated. You had friends in common, maybe even a couple of memories where you guys really connected, but for some reason or another, you just couldn't stay in touch. And then 10 years later, you end up sharing a cubicle with him at your new job. What's Wrong With Being Popular?

Modest Mouse has a new album out. I know this, or at least I was reminded of it, when I saw it advertised along with a few other new releases in the New York Times. After finishing the Sunday crossword puzzle in 22 minutes (I was using my left hand), I perused the rest of the entertainment section and found said advert, from one of those places that sells everything that you can plug in or plug something into. This is certainly not how I would have found out about a new Modest Mouse album back in the college days. For that sort of info, I would've had to consult Ted, because Modest Mouse was only popular among people like Ted, people who could tell you more about a band than the people in the band.
